A Little Friend Helped Naaman Elisha’s healing of naaman in the bible (the leper [and] commander of the army of the king of syria) is a familiar story to many (2 kgs 5:1–27). naaman hears that elisha, the prophet of israel, can heal him, so he makes the trip. when the two meet, elisha tells him rather dismissively that he needs to take a bath in the jordan river. Naaman was syria’s foremost general when elisha served as god’s foremost prophet in israel. after a syrian raid on israel, naaman brought back his wife a gift: a hebrew servant girl. when she saw that naaman suffered from a serious leprous skin disease, the hebrew servant girl told naaman about elisha and the power of yahweh. Naaman in the bible was the commander of the syrian army who was healed of his leprosy by elisha the prophet. naaman was highly esteemed by the king of syria (or aram) because of the many victories won by the syrian army. the bible calls naaman “a valiant soldier.”. his story is recorded in 2 kings 5:1–19. The story of naaman, from the standpoint of the original author, begins in 2 kings 5:1 2 when a syrian (aramean) para military group kidnaps a young israeli woman on one of their incursions into the ancient israelite territory. the young woman loses everything and becomes a slave who is owned by naaman’s wife.
