General Motors Hei Ignition Modules The easiest way to test a module on the car is to ensure that the wiring & pickup coil are ok. the module is essentially an amplifier with a built in analog to digital convertor. easy tests for hei system: 1. test for power at the pink bat terminal. you should have battery voltage w the key in the start and run positions. 2. Gm Hei Distributor Module 1. let the engine get cold, so tha the problem is not happening. 2. pull the cap, get a heat gun and heat up the pick up coil. try to heat the pick up coil and not the module. put an omh meter across the pick up coil leads and see if the resitance makes a dramatic change while you heat the coil. 4 vettes is right. easiest way to test is buy a new one. swap it out. if it solves your issue, congrats. then go buy another spare. if it doesn’t solve your issue, ok but now you have a spare, which you should have anyway. ps make sure you use the heat sink compound that comes with the module, or buy some if it doesn’t come with.
